It's not rocket science (part 2)

Dr Mark HassedA few weeks ago I spoke about visiting offices where low producing dentists were working. I mentioned how basic things such as greeting the patient nicely were often lacking. Here's another blindingly obvious thing but one where the low producing dentists often did it completely wrong. When you are discussing treatment with patients do it face to face. So many of the lower performing dentists failed in this regard. They either sat over the patient, stood over the patient or even sat behind the patient. This obviously made the patient uncomfortable and conversation strained and awkward.Instead of having a normal adult-to-adult conversation the way these were done made the interaction seem like an adult-to-child lecture.Where do you sit when you talk with patients about treatment? How do you make them feel?
