The worst thing about being a doctor

I was just watching a video where a really bright young doctor was describing the worst parts of his job in medicine.

To quote: "I seem to spend 10% of my time being a doctor and 90% of my time writing notes and filling in forms. I draw some blood for a test and then I have to spend the next 10 minutes doing paperwork."

What's true for medicine is also true for dentistry.

Have you ever looked at how much of you day is spent actually working on/with patients and how much is spent doing easily-delegated administrative tasks. Things such as lab sheets, referral letters, pouring models and clinical notes.

If that applies to you there are two likely causes:

  1. You are under-staffed

  2. You do not train and delegate properly

If you want your practice to flourish then you need to get your hourly rate up to $400 at least.

If that is your goal why would you do tasks (like filling in lab sheets) that you can easily delegate to some one and pay them $30 per hour or less?

It makes no sense.

Think how much more you could achieve in a day if, instead of spending 10% of your time working on/with patients, you spent 80% or 90% or even 100%. The difference would be amazing.
