Safety

Blade flaskI was at a very well run practice recently and performed a surgical procedure that required a scalpel.Of course, at the end of the procedure, the scalpel needed to be disposed of. I was handed some artery forceps and told to remove the blade.I was not keen to do this because I personally know of 2 nurses who severely cut themselves attempting to do exactly that.It would be so much easier if the practice invested in BladeFLASK or a similar item. Using that piece of equipment you never have to worry. There is no danger and the blade is gone. Perfect. If you don't have a full armamentarium of the latest safety items then now is the time. With ever more stringent workplace safety laws you must do everything you possibly can to make the practice safe for both you and the team.
