Mentoring works

Many senior dentists employ younger dentists. In talking with the young dentists the thing they want, more than anything else, is to be taught. To improve their skills. To be mentored.I'm going to let you in on the simplest and best way to do it.

The senior dentist should let the junior dentist come in and watch as the senior dentist treats patients. Nothing brings on a young dentist faster than watching the skills and decision making of a senior colleague.

It's best if the younger dentist comes in on a day they have off so they have no time pressures.

The junior dentist just pulls up a chair in the corner and gets introduced as a colleague who would like to watch. Patients don't mind at all. After each patient a two minute debrief is great if there is time.
