High overheads

As I see more and more practices I am starting to see a new relationship. One that has not been commented on before (to the best of my knowledge) in the dental literature.Practices that run late have high overheads.Practices that run late having high staff turnover is pretty easy to understand. If you keep your staff late every night and make them work through lunch then they get sick of it after a while.But, why do practices that run late have high overheads?I'm not sure at the moment. When I find out I'll be sure to report it in this blogMy current best guess is that the high overhead is due to inefficient use of timeDentistry is largely procedural. After you have done 5,000 fillings you get to know how long you need to  do one.If a dentist, even though he knows how long it takes to do things, still runs late then the problem is behavioral. The dentist is choosing, either consciously or subconsciously, to run late.It's a form of self sabotageI'll report more as I discover more about this phenomenon.
