Going on holidays

Dr B posed a question about what I did when I went on holidays.

My practice was a single dentist practice and so no one was there to look after emergencies when I was away. Horror!

To me it was never a problem for three reasons:

  1. There was an emergency service 5km away. I put their number on my answering machine when I was away.

  2. My patients quite seldom had emergencies because I tried (as far as I was able) to do it right the first time.

  3. The level of care I offered was different from the emergency service and my “competitors” so I was not afraid to have my patients visit another practice.

Dentists often have a fear that if they are not always there, their patients will not like them any more.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Patients know and understand that you are human too and that you too need holidays. As long as you have a number on the answer machine for them to call then it’s all completely OK.

So, relax and enjoy your well-earned break.
