Finding a better way

There's a quote concerning lazy people that I really like.

I don't know who said it but it goes something like this: "If you have a difficult job to do give it to a lazy person. They're sure to find an easier way to do it.

"Being lazy is generally not a good thing but in this regard it is excellent. In our daily practice of dentistry we should always be looking for easier, simpler and less arduous ways of doing things.

How long is it since you found a better way of doing what you do? Are you always alert to new possibilities? Are you looking and thinking?

I have a friend who has practiced in the same way since the 1980s. Whenever I visit I always think it is a terrible shame.

In the past 6 months I've discovered a new bur block (more on that in a future blog), a new crown prep bur and a new way of making contact points rock solid.

It's amazing what you find if you are alert to possibilities.
