Consistency and focus

Dr Mark HassedWorking in a practice this past week I had a chance to once again appreciate the value of consistency and focus and how frustrating it is when those things are lacking. When I first arrived in the practice the nurses were doing two things that left me exhausted at the end of the day.Firstly, they were placing items I needed on the bench behind me. That meant that every time I needed a wedge (for example) I had to look away from where I was working, turn around 180 degrees and hunt around on the bench.Secondly, they placed items in random locations. The burs (for example) might be in any one of several different locations. Worse still all the burs were not in 1 place. They were scattered around the bracket table or the back bench with no discernible system. This led to more hunting and frustration. The thing that amazed me was that this is the system that the owner of the practice works under every day. Why he tolerates it I can't imagine.Look at how you work and see what you can do to make things more consistent and let you focus more. You'll be amazed at how much fresher you feel at the end of the day.
