5 classic case acceptance mistakes (Part 4)

Watching dentists talk with patients about treatment there are a number of mistakes that I see made over and over again.

Mistake #4 — Pressuring

Last week I wrote about dentists who are so wishy washy that it is impossible to tell what they are recommending. There are a significant group of dentists at the other end of the spectrum.

These dentists try to pressure patients into treatment by minimising problems and failing to give the patient options."To fix that tooth we must do a crown. There really is no option.

"The problem is that pressuring patients into treatment works sometimes but on other occasions it leads to dissatisfied patients, bad debts and loss of the patient to the practice down the street.

Letting the patient make their decision based on an honestly presented set of facts is always the best way to do it.

So, rule #4 is: Never, ever pressure patients into treatment. Always be absolutely fair with how you present treatment options.
