Dr Mark HassedA while ago a younger dentist asked me how they could reduce the time they took to do a crown preparation. My simple advice was the title of this post.

Once you have a reasonable amount of experience it is not necessary to stop all the time and admire your work. If you just keep drilling without pause you get to the end so much quicker. You just need to visualise the desired result and keep going, never lifting your foot off the pedal until you get there.

Doing a superb classical crown preparation does not require a lot of time. I have watched as Dr Omer Reed (USA) did a crown preparation in 90 seconds. I examined it and it looked like a picture out of a textbook. Perfect in every aspect.

Think about how long it takes you to prepare a tooth for a crown and see if you can keep the bur on the tooth.
