Over the past several years I've visited and worked in dozens of dental practices.
The big majority of them do not have a triplex on the nurses side. That slows you down very significantly in two ways.
Firstly, when you're working using the mirror for vision and a high speed with water spray the mirror constantly gets covered in water. Time and again you must stop drilling and give the mirror a wipe with your thumb. Sometimes you must do this every 2 or 3 seconds.
Drill – stop – wipe. Over and over and over.
Secondly, when a tooth needs to be washed or dried or both, say after cleaning out decay, or etching or polishing you have to stop, pick up the triplex and do it yourself. If there is a lot of decay you maybe have to repeat the process 3 or 4 times before the tooth is decay free.
Drill – stop – put down handpiece – pick up triplex – wash – put down triplex – pick up handpiece. Over and over and over.
Why would anyone choose to work like that?
If you spend a few hundred dollars getting a triplex on the nurse's side then train her how to use it your work flow can be hugely improved.
Drill – finish.
